Piet Hein Eek x Simone van Es
Stackable Stool from Silphium Perforliatum
The Stackable Stool from Silphium Perforliatum is a collaboration between Piet Hein Eek and Studio Simone van Es.
The Design has a clearly recognisable Piet Hein Eek signature, simple and modest. With a contrasting copper ring and robust screw bolts of stainless steel keep the stool free of glue.
The dark sheet material used for the stool was extracted from the flowering fibre crop Silphium Perforliatum (Silphy) and contains no added bio-binders. The crop ‘glues’ itself with its natural lignines. It is one of several building materials Simone and her team developed from this versatile fibre crop.
The design of Piet is a contribution for all. From farmer to designer, from manufacturer to customer. But far and foremost an ode to nature. May Silphy grow and bloom richly, may meadow birds hatch in it, may insects and small wild find shelter, may it help ecosystems recover and pollinators feed from it in abundance.
And may the beauty of this urgent message touch the hearts of many so new actions will follow... Together we grow the future, research is the way!
